Mayor Adrian Gonzalez and the Weslaco City Commission are proud to recognize February 2024 as Black History Month, honoring the many notable contributions that people of African descent have made to our country and our community.  Anesthesiologist, Dr. Esther Akindayomi, Physical Therapist Dr. Theresa Gatling, and CEO of Valley Grande Institute accepted the City of Weslaco’s Proclamation on behalf of the VIVA Organization--a nonprofit whose mission is elevating and uniting the black community while connecting cultures in the Rio Grande Valley.
